AI role play
Your reps get one shot at the meeting. Give them fifty before it.
Rehearse the conversation that matters against a buyer who pushes back, on video or by phone, whenever your reps need it.
What one role play actually looks like
A first call with a sceptical doctor that goes badly, scored honestly, then run again. Six steps, start to finish.
The rep picks a situation that mirrors the territory. Persona, difficulty and objectives are set by the enablement team, built only from material the company has approved.
The doctor avatar pushes back in real time and gives you seven-minutes, not thirty. The objectives stay on screen, so the rep always knows what the visit has to achieve.
Five competencies, each measured against the thresholds the organisation sets rather than against a vague average.
Every competency breaks into sub-skills, each tied to the second of the call where it applies.
The exact sentence the rep said, why it lost the doctor's attention, and the one to use instead.
Every attempt is kept, so improvement is a number rather than a feeling. No doctor relationship was spent learning it.

Seven minutes with a sceptical GP
HCP visitA general practitioner has given you seven-minutes between patients. She has read the summary, is not convinced, and a colleague has told her that field teams over-promise.

Tasks
Two competencies sit under the 50 floor, and both showed up in the same fifteen seconds.
Attempt 2. All five competencies clear the 75 target.

What is actually different from what I have already read?
So, um, I think a lot of the other practices we visit have been quite positive about it.
Right. I have four minutes left.
Her question got a hedge. State two points, then stop.

Healthcare professionalSeven minutes with a sceptical physician who has read the summary and heard that field teams over-promise. The rep has to answer without slides.
Price objectionA price objection raised in the first minute. The customer has anchored on the number, and the rep has to move the conversation to value without sounding rehearsed and without reaching for a discount.
New-hire readinessA new rep's first discovery call. Two weeks in, the brand story is solid and the needs assessment is not, so the demo stays locked until that one call holds up.
Leadership one to oneThe one to one nobody wants to have. A manager has to name a performance problem plainly and still keep the person in the room.

Sit in on a session
This is the role play itself, not a recording of one. Change the scenario, open the transcript, switch language. The buyer reasons about what was said and answers it.
Stage task
Handle the customer's hesitation about storage capacity by explaining the long-term value of a higher-tier model.

A counterpart that answers in the moment, on video or by phone, built from your material and carrying a personality and an attitude your enablement team chose.

Scored once the call ends
After the session, words, voice and face are read across the whole recording, so feedback comes with every run rather than a week later.
- Video and phoneThe job is both, so the practice is both.
- The counterpart answers from your materialIn the role play, the counterpart answers only from the documents you approved, which is what makes it usable in regulated industries.
- An opening line that sets the toneHow the counterpart starts is generated from the goal and the persona, so the rep walks into a real situation.
- Difficulty is a settingAttitude towards your company is chosen deliberately, from positive through to negative.
- Unlimited attemptsFirst try and best try are both kept, and the distance between them is the number that shows coaching worked.
- Every rep, same standardEvery rep on the team practises against the same counterpart and is read against the same framework, whichever country they sell in.
- It holds a positionThe counterpart holds a position, changes its mind when the argument is good, and stays in character for the whole conversation.
- 14 languagesSessions run in 14 languages, on video or by phone, at the difficulty you choose.
- Difficulty that follows the repOne scenario spans small talk to an evidence-based expert discussion, so a new hire and a senior seller can both run it.
- Cues during the conversationReal-time nudges surface while it still matters, so the rep corrects course inside the conversation rather than reading about it afterwards.
- Guided modeThe full task list stays on screen while the rep talks. The most structured mode, for reps new to a scenario.
- Reveal modeEach task appears once the rep has covered it, so reps recall the steps instead of reading them.
- Test modeOnly the goal is shown and the tasks stay hidden. The result shows which ones the rep covered.
- Natural modeNo instructions, an open conversation scored against your behavioural goals. The closest to a real call.
- Feedback after every runGuided AI coaching analyses the recording and returns the few things worth working on next.

Frequently asked questions
How is this different from role playing with ChatGPT?
A general chatbot will play a character if you ask it to. What it will not do is hold a consistent buyer persona across a programme, score the conversation against a defined behavioural model, keep the recording inside an ISO 27001 certified environment with EU data residency, or roll results up so an enablement lead can see whether a cohort improved. The conversation is the easy part. The measurement and the governance are the product.
Does this replace coaching from managers?
No, and the customers who get the most out of it are explicit about that. Repetition moves to the platform, so managers stop spending their hours running the fifth version of the same scenario and spend them on the judgement calls a machine should not make.
Which languages are supported?
14 languages across the product, covering both the interface and the role play itself, so a rollout does not need a separate programme per country.
How realistic are the personas?
Personas act freely within boundaries you define. You set the role, the priorities, the attitude toward your company and how hard they push, and the AI improvises inside that. That is a deliberate design choice: a persona that can say anything is not a fair test, and one that can only follow a script is not a test at all.
What does IT need to approve?
Retorio is ISO 27001 certified, GDPR and DSGVO compliant, EU AI Act aligned, and hosted on GCP with EU data residency. Role play uses virtual buyers, so no real customer data is processed during practice.
What makes the role play feel real?
Two things. The technology: fast responses and natural turn-taking, an avatar with convincing expression and lip sync, and speech recognition that copes with dialects, background noise and technical terms. And the relevance: a persona whose attitude, goals and objections come from your context and who reacts to what the rep does. When a rep feels they are talking to a robot, natural behaviour stops, and natural behaviour is what the feedback reads.
